I was contacted by SKOR (Stichting Kunst Openbare Ruimte) to design this work. SKOR is a non-profit organization in the Netherlands that facilitates the contact between the artist and client. The client is usually a public institution. It is similar to the percent for arts program here in Ohio.

Because of the distance between my home and Hoorn, the Netherlands, I received a videotape of the space that was being considered for an installation.

I travelled to the Netherlands in October, 2002 to meet with the cliets and brought sketches and a maquette with me. I also brought some three-dimensional birds and fish along so the clients could choose the materials they preferred. The idea was approved, so I headed home to start building!
